Post Date 10/17/25: On October 25, as part of the San Francisco Litquake festival’s pub crawl event, KneeDeep writers Ariel Okamoto, Nate Seltenrich, John Hart, and Cristina Deptula will present literary pieces on the theme of journeys back to our own terrain. They’ll share a science adventure on Ocean Beach and why people are drawn to the beach, a character study of an East Bay punk medical researcher and eco-activist, a re-wilding journey through Yosemite National Park, and field notes on California buckeye seeds germinating with winter rains, and another about migratory raptors arriving in the region in early fall. Science Storytelling with San Francisco Estuary Institute
Post Date 9/26/25: Surfing Bay mud. Chasing midnight storms. Mapping the invisible. On October 27, join the San Francisco Estuary Institute at the Sports Basement Berkeley’s Community room for an evening of science storytelling. In five-minute talks, SFEI scientists will share insider perspectives on what it takes to study and protect the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta and San Francisco Bay. Expect to be surprised, inspired, and reminded of the wonder in our own backyard. This event is free and open to all. Register here.

State of the Estuary Conference
Post Date 9/26/25: The health of the Estuary that flows through the heart of Northern California gets a reality check now and then with the State of the Estuary Conference. This year the conference will be held October 28-29 in Oakland and meet the moment by calling out critical topics and connecting regional scientists, community organizers, students, legislators, resource managers, planners, and others working in the space. Book a Climate Science Field Trip in San Mateo
Post Date 9/26/25: Are you a teacher looking to engage your students in climate change issues and local solutions? The Youth Exploring Climate Science field trip program is now accepting bookings for the 2025-26 academic year! The San Mateo Sustainability Department offers field trips for 7th to 12th graders that focus on three areas: wildfire mitigation, sea level rise adaptation, and biodiversity protection.
