We Want to Hear from You

Our reporting is strengthened when local residents share their experiences, and local reporters bring us new story ideas and perspectives. We’ve included the form on this page so you can reach out.

Story Pitch?

We want to hear about what’s happening in your community. What climate initiative or challenge is your city working on? Who are the players? Help inform our reporting by sharing the details here.

 Personal Resilience Story?

Send us your personal resilience story for consideration for publication on the California Climate Quilt.

Art, Photos, Video? Picture of the Month?

Our stories benefit from great graphics and film. If you have something to offer let us know.

For our home page Picture of the Month, we are also looking for great images of climate resilient moments.

    News Pitch?

KneeDeep is always looking for new reporters and new stories, with one caveat, both must be local to the greater San Francisco Bay Area, if not California. We welcome a wide range of story topics, ranging from urban farms to environmental justice, health, housing, nature, local activism and more.

    Local Climate Challenges We Cover

Wildfire, smoke, heat, drought, flooding, storms and extreme weather.

    Other Submission Guidelines

KneeDeep pays up to $1/word for most stories. Preferred lengths are 500 or 1000 words. KneeDeep only pays for original reported content created by humans.

We prefer solution-driven stories about the greater San Francisco Bay Area. But we will consider stories about California, the West Coast, or even elsewhere in the country as long as you can add information about what it has to do with our region (example: Insurance Innovations)

KneeDeep also welcomes opinion or perspective pieces, or letters to the editor (300-1000 words). But we reserve the right to decide whether to publish them or not.

    Managing Editor Ariel Rubissow Okamoto.

    Republication Guidelines

KneeDeep welcomes republication of its stories. See our guidelines here.

    Jobs

Currently there are no job openings at KneeDeep but we are taking applications for community reporting fellows from the San Jose/Gilroy area. We are also looking for community correspondents to fill us in on local news and/or write occasional stories from the region’s nine counties.  See Find Your Local Reporter for slots open.
